Racing the clock
I love all those blogs about how you can do it all. There is an article going around about a woman that wakes up at 4am to do her morning run before giving her children breakfast and then heading into her job as a CEO. The article paints her as having it all together. It's insane. How could you have it all together if you are waking up at 4am??? This was my day today. I don't have it all together, I am trying to just trying to get it all done.
Woke up a little late, hubby is traveling so I couldn't run in the morning. Alarm went off at 6:50, I got out of bed at 7, need to have girls up and breakfast ready at 7:20. Guess I'm not washing my hair...again! It's OK, I washed it on...Sunday. It's Thursday. It's in a bun. Got dressed in 2 minutes, ran out to the kitchen, scrambled some eggs and sauteed some chicken sausage. Started waking the girls up at 7:20! Woohoo! They ate, I got them dressed, was brushing their teeth when Shellie, our nanny, arrived. We finished getting them ready and I got them out the door at 8:15, then I grabbed the dog (watching my parents dog for a few weeks), took him for a walk since the doggy daycare guy hadn't come yet, picked up my citibike while doing that so I wouldn't be stuck without one. Dropped him back into the house and ran back to the bike. Biked to work. There for my 9am meeting. Phew. This was not graceful. I am a wreck. I did my makeup in the elevator on the way into the office.
The day is a whirlwind. Meetings galore (ate a 3 musketeer in the morning meeting, breakast of champions!). System issues. Find out I am presenting in a meeting tomorrow morning at 11. Whoops, was changed to 9:30 at 4:30. Guess I am going to be working tonight on my notes!
I was planning on running home from work because it is the only time I can. Without hubby around, I cannot go in the morning. If I run home from work, I still have the nanny covering. But, I have to bring my computer home. Decide to leave at 5:15 so I can bike home (it's faster than the subway and I need every minute!) and then do a quick 4 miles before nanny leaves! I was smart, I changed in the lobby because we all know if I had gone up the apartment to change it would be at least a 10 minute turn around and I didn't have 10 extra minutes!
Did my 4 miles, listened to some nice country music so I feel a little more relaxed now. Head home and play with the girls for a bit, yay! Best part of my day! We played with their babies, we went for a trip to the doctor's office and we read a book.
But, the day is not over. I have a class tonight from 8-930. During bedtime. I have a new babysitter coming over today, she lives in the building so I am really hoping this works out! We all hang out for awhile, get the girls ready for bed and I give kisses and head out.
Again, this was not graceful. Penny wasn't super happy I was leaving. Oh, and the dog got home a few minutes before I left so we got a little chaotic! But the girls were adorable. They put his food in his bowl (too much and lots of kernels on the floor), they put water in his bowl (none spilled!!), they pet him and played with him. In general, they were super sweet with him and I loved watching them.
Class is fine. I feel smarter. Slightly more ready to become a teacher one day. A little daunted by the work due for next week. Typical!
Get home, girls aren't asleep, in bed but awake. Get the dog, take him for a walk, pay the babysitter.
Open up my computer and spend another few hours doing my work for my 9:30 meeting tomorrow.
Dinner was cheese and wine.
Bed at midnight. I hope I wake up in time to wash my hair tomorrow. It's pretty gross to be honest.
